Have the Talk of a Lifetime

Here at Messenger we believe in the importance of family, and we understand how hard it is to lose a loved one. Honoring a loved one after their passing is an important part of the healing process. That’s why Messenger is participating in the Have a Talk of a Lifetime campaign, which encourages families to have important conversations with one another.

The campaign was created by the Funeral and Memorial Information Council (FAMIC) as a way to encourage families to have important conversations, and to provide families with resources to help get these conversations started. Learning about a family member’s life story, values, interests, and experiences can lead to stronger, closer relationships with loved ones. This talk can also open the door to discussions about how your loved one wants to be remembered after death.

Grandmother with Daughter and Grandson

You can have the talk with anyone who is important to you – a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling, or even a close friend. It can happen anytime, not just near the end of life. It can even be a series of conversations between you and a loved one.

The FAMIC has created free resources for families to help facilitate these important conversations. On the Talk of a Lifetime website you can download a workbook that comes with conversation starters and sample questions to ask your loved one. The website also provides more information about the campaign and the importance of having the talk, as well as many other resources to help get the conversation started.
