She was a positive, energetic person who easily befriended the residents and staff at Woodside, and will be dearly missed by her friends and relatives. Bev was born in Albany, New York to Vernon and Blanche (Hollis) Meyers on December 8, 1931. After completing her education, Bev spent several years as a secretary and bookkeeper at her father’s law firm. She married Norman Pelican on her 25th birthday in 1956. Anyone who spent a few minutes with Bev knew she was a dog lover. She owned and fostered many shelter dogs throughout her life, and was an animal adoption advocate. For many years, she worked at the St. Mary’s Veterinary Clinic. After retiring, she volunteered at the local animal shelter. Bev and her husband also enjoyed bicycling and taking hikes with their many canine companions. Bev is survived by her brother, Gunther Meyers; two nieces, Stephanie (Dan) Masterson, and Linda Meyers; and a grand-nephew,Travis Masterson. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Norman. A funeral service for Bev will be held at Woodside Center Chapel on Friday, January 17 at 10:00 a.m., with visitation preceding. Bev will be buried next to her husband in St. Mary’s Parkside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Bev Pelican fund which will benefit the St. Mary’s Animal Rescue. She was 74. Tabitha passed away at home, surrounded by her loved ones, after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born Tabitha Louise Barnes on May 9, 1942, to Arnold and Martha (Willis) Barnes, on a farm near Iowa City. She attended Southside Country High School, and married Samuel Webber shortly after graduation. Tabitha attended college while raising their two children, and worked as a part-time x-ray technician for many years after receiving her degree. Tabitha is survived by her husband, Arnold Webber; children, Sam Webber, Jr. and Gloria (Michael) Truman; grandchildren, Eliza and Daniel Truman; and brother, Marvin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Martha Barnes; and a sister, Louise, who passed away in infancy. A funeral service for Tabitha Webber will be held at Riverside Church of the Brethren on Tuesday, April 25, at 1:00 pm. Visitation hours begin at 10:00 am, with a luncheon at noon. Anyone wishing to contribute to a memorial fund should direct donations to Riverside Church, or to the Cedar Rapids Home Care Group. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it. “LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.” The LORD replied,“My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you.
